CarterBaldwin's Executive Search Process

CarterBaldwin Executive Search uses a three-phase approach to our retained search process, ensuring that results can be measured and benchmarked at each stage of the process.  

At CarterBaldwin Executive Search, Partners move through every phase of the search with the client: from crafting the position description, defining the target market and approach, interviewing the candidates, and negotiating the offer. The result is a full slate of candidates presented within 50 days who fit each organization’s unique business needs. We're able to identify candidates quickly and efficiently because, in partnership with our clients, we understand the skill set needed from top to bottom.

1. Project Definition & Scope

CarterBaldwin begins by investigating organizational structure, corporate culture and expectations for the position. We interview our clients to fully understand their expectations and the demands of the position, highlighting specific areas of opportunity for the prospective new hire, as well as to create a client culture profile. At this initial meeting we also identify challenges for the search, agree on the search strategy and create a position profile that conveys key criteria for the candidate as well as what makes the role a compelling opportunity.

2. Strategic Recruitment

Once a target list of candidates is created, we initiate the recruiting segment of the search, individually contacting each prospect, and in a persuasive manner, discuss with them the unique opportunity available. Through each direct recruiting call we assess the candidate“s skill set and personality. A typical search includes identifying more than 150 prospects, interviewing 30 to 40, and finally developing a final slate of 3 to 5 top candidates. We openly communicate to our client each candidate“s level of interest, his/her motivation, and any concerns we have uncovered, so that we can work together to determine the best course of action.

With the final slate, we provide comprehensive candidate summary reports for each finalist, including degree and certification verification along with a recommended course of action. We work directly with the client to arrange all interviews and coordinate logistics, including travel and hotel arrangements. Finally, after each interview, we circle back with the client providing feedback from the candidate concerning post-interview thoughts and impressions.

3. Selection & Assimilation

Upon reaching the final interview stage, CarterBaldwin completes personal and business references for lead candidates. We discuss with the client how to best structure an offer that will be compelling to the primary candidate. Realizing there are many facets to making a career change, we work with the candidate to communicate each aspect critical to understanding the offer including compensation, relocation, and benefits. We also assist the newly hired candidate through their resignation process, help them prepare for counter-offer issues and facilitate their seamless integration into their new organization. Throughout the final offer and acceptance phase, we maintain regular contact with both the client and the candidate to ensure that any issues are addressed promptly and resolved quickly.
